According to Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary, a library is a building in which collections of books, tapes, newspapers, etc. are kept for people to read, study or borrow.
Kaduna Polytechnic library is named “Isa Kaita Library Complex” after the first minister of Education of the defunct Northern Regional Government of Nigeria.
Isa Kaita was a Nigerian politician, born in January 1912 at Katsina, Nigeria. He went on to hold the chieftaincy titles of the Madawaki of Katsina and later, the Waziri of Katsina. Prior to joining politics, he was a distinguished broadcaster at the BBC. He was also the Regional Minister for Education from 1957-1966. He died on, 26 November 1994, in Kaduna.
Isa kaita Library is located at the polytechnic Main Campus, polytechnic Road, Tudun Wada PMB 2021, Kaduna State, Nigeria.
During our research, we found that the library is well equipped with reading and research materials needed by the Kaduna Polytechnic students and staff. The library is divided into so many departments/sections, such as Art and Humanity section, Science and Technology section, Electronic Library section and so on. There is also a section for Journals, Newspapers, Magazines, etc.
Apart from Isa Kaita Library, the polytechnic has other libraries in its other colleges which are: College of Business and Management Studies (CBMS), College of Environmental Studies (CES) and College of Administrative Studies and Social Sciences (CASSS).
Kaduna Polytechnic was established in 1956 as Kaduna Technical Institute. It became Kaduna Polytechnic in 1968 by the Federal Government Decree No. 20 of 1968, which was revised in 1979 by Decree No. 79. In 1991 the institution was taken over by the Federal Government under Decree No. 40 of the same year.
